If I am “managing”, then I’m not stressed, right?

I had the pleasure of being invited on the podcast, The Butter Dish, to talk about STRESS. Natalie and Heidi, the hosts, had amazing questions, leading to an in-depth conversation on stress and how it can help or hinder you.

Here is a common misconception the ladies shared during our chat… does this sound familiar?

“Stress management means working through my stress. If I can manage all the things under my stress umbrella, it's managed. We don’t want to get to the point where we are WHITE KNUCKLING IT. If I can keep myself from putting the “one more straw” and “breaking the back” then I am managing it. I AM SUCCESSFUL, and therefore I’m not really stressed.”

They also collectively acknowledged: “We don’t make time for the things that will actually make us less stressed and build our capacity.”

During our conversation, I walk you through 3 of my favorite activities:

    1. Identifying your stressors (~13 minute mark)
    2. How to identify and scale stress (~9 minute mark)
    3. Meditation
      • What is a walking meditation? (~32 minute mark)
      • Guided meditation (~32:50 mark): this can help you experience a sense of calm, because many of you may have forgotten that feeling.
